The Lagos State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Adenike Adeyemi, on Thursday disclosed that eight batch ‘C’ youth corps members that served in the state died during the service year.
Ms Adeyemi made the disclosure while speaking during the passing-out ceremony of the corps members.
“On a sad note, eight patriots lost their lives during the service year,” she said.
She said it was sad that the corps members died when the nation needed their services most. The coordinator said four corps members received the state honours award for hard work in line with the NYSC policy. Ms Adeyemi also said 53 others would repeat the service year for absconding from their places of primary assignment.
“I congratulate the corps member for the successful completion of their service year and salute your courage and doggedness that helped you accomplish your feat.”
“As you leave today, do not hesitate to put into practice the experience you have gained by setting up your own enterprise, no matter how small, and grow from there,” Gov. Fashola, represented by Joseph Abolude, Director, General Services Department, Ministry of Special Duties said.
A total of 8165 Batch ‘C’ youth corps members served in the state.
