23-year-old Die In Delta Cult War
A 23-year old man, Victor Odoye died at the weekend as rival court groups clashed at Okwagbe community, Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The police who responded promptly as they got wind of the mayhem arrested 10 suspected cultists. The leader of one of the cult groups, identified by the police as an ex-militant, Solomon, is, however, on the run.
Confirming Odoye’s death, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Famous Ajieh, said the cultists wielded dangerous weapons, but the cause of the clash was unclear.
“The police received information that two cult groups fought themselves with dangerous weapons at Saint Vincent College, Okwagbe, and one Victor Odoye, aged 23, was killed by cultists during the cult war.”
Sources say the cultists fled on sighting police operatives, who stormed the school used as a battlefield.
“Police swung into action immediately and with the help of Okwagbe vigilante men, 10 of the hoodlums, aged between 18 and 27, were arrested,” he said.
The police recovered two daggers at the scene of the cult war while a manhunt for the fleeing hoodlums have commenced.
“The remains of the deceased were deposited in the mortuary of General Hospital, Otu-Jeremi,” he added
