THE ACT OF VALOR

THE ACT OF VALOR

So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion, respect others in their views and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, and beautify all things in your life. Seek   to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend even a stranger, when in a lonely place, show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and for the Joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death so that  when their time comes they weep and pray  for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

Live your life by a code, it’s your shoreline, and it’s what guides you home and trust me you are always trying to get home.

No one’s stronger than a man who can harness his emotions and his past

West Brom in historic win over Man United

on   /   in Sports 5:31 pm   /   Comments
MANCHESTER – Morgan Amaltifano and Saido Berahino saw West Brom win at Old Trafford for the first time in 35 years as they beat Premier League champions Manchester United 2-1 on Saturday.
The Baggies, whose last triumph at Old Trafford was a 5-3 success in the old First Division in 1978, inflicted a third defeat in six league games on David Moyes’s United that left the hosts a lowly 12th in the table.
French midfielder Amaltifano, on loan from Marseille, opened the scoring with a fine solo effort just after the hour.
Wayne Rooney pulled the home side level with a free-kick but England Under-21 international Berahino scored the Baggies’ second goal to earn a well-deserved win.
United substitute Marouane Fellaini had an effort rightly ruled out for offside and the hosts, who have not scored from open play since the first day of the season, created few chances.
Before the match, United manager Moyes referred to last Sunday’s humbling 4-1 defeat at Manchester City as “embarrassing” and just four players that started that game were in the Scot’s line-up for the West Brom clash.
West Brom’s cause was hampered when Scott Sinclair, a winger on loan from City, limped off after just 12 minutes.
The visitors were finally sparked into life when Stephane Sessegnon burst past Shinji Kagawa and into the area from a short free-kick only for United’s Michael Carrick to clear at the second attempt.
The Premier League champions finally threatened when Anderson picked out Nani with a raking pass and the Portuguese winger clipped in an impressive cross that just evaded Javier Hernandez for West Brom goalkeeper Boaz Myhill to gather.
Nani always looked dangerous and sent over a free-kick that found Rooney only for the striker to head straight at Myhill.
Just before the half hour, West Brom created a fine opening when Liam Ridgewell found Amalfitano on the left flank and the midfielder’s cross was glanced just wide of goal by Berahino.

Anderson also had a low drive held by Myhill and Rooney headed over as United tried to end their first-half frustration.
United always looked more comfortable on the break and one quick counter-attack from Kagawa ended with the Japan midfielder crossing for Anderson to head against the bar.
A one-touch passing move then saw Anderson thread the ball through for Kagawa and he eked out the space for a shot only for the midfielder to fail to stretch Myhill.
Jonas Olsson flicked on a corner shortly before the break and Sessegnon thumped well off target from just a couple of yards as the visitors passed up another opportunity.
Belgian youngster Adnan Januzaj came on for Kagawa at the interval but fine work from Sessegnon opened up United once again shortly after the restart.
The Benin forward cut inside Alexander Buttner and Jonny Evans before feeding Berahino, whose low drive was turned wide by goalkeeper David de Gea.
However, West Brom scored eight minutes into the second period when Amalfitano picked the ball up on halfway, slipped past Rio Ferdinand and waited for de Gea to commit before lifting the ball over the keeper.
But the lead lasted just four minutes, with Rooney clipping in a free-kick from the left that was missed by Hernandez but flew into the far corner.
Youssef Mulumbu thumped a shot narrowly wide from just outside the area as West Brom showed they were not finished.
From an Amalfitano corner shortly afterwards Olsson beat Ferdinand to the ball and his header bounced away off the bar.
Amalfitano threatened with a bending free-kick that was pushed away from the top corner by de Gea.
But midway through the second period, the visitors took the lead again when Sessegnon clipped a ball to Amalfitano and youngster Berahino hit a powerful effort into the bottom corner.
Fellaini came off the bench and turned in from Nani’s pass but was rightly ruled offside before Carrick and Januzaj failed to equalise with late efforts.(AFP)

CLARK-- At 85, I can say what I want to.

ABUJA— FORMER Federal Commissioner for Information and Ijaw Leader, Chief Edwin Clark, said, yesterday, that at 85, he should not be afraid to say what he wants to say, against the backdrop that he was close to the grave. The elder statesman, who reiterated that no ethnic group in the country has a monopoly of governance, stressed that demands for governorship and state creation were legitimate.
Chief Clark spoke yesterday at his Asokoro residence, Abuja, when he received nine traditional rulers under the aegis of Anioma Congress from Delta State, led by the Asagba of Asaba, Professor Chike Edozie.

The traditional rulers from Delta North senatorial district, were in Chief Clark’s house to kick off campaign that the zone should produce the next governor of the state for the 2015 gubernatorial election or in the alternative that a new state, Anioma State, should be created from the present Delta State, just as they also met with the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
Other traditional rulers with the Asagba of Asaba were the Obi of Owa, Dr. Emmanuel Efeizomor; the Obi of Issele-Uku, Ogene of Ibedeni; Obi of Onicha-Ugbo, Obi of Ejeme-Unor; Obi of Ubulu-Uku, Obi of Atuma and Eze Emu of Emu.
Meanwhile, the Asagba of Asaba, who noted that the logic behind making Asaba the capital of Delta State has not been explained, said that the tension for the creation of Anioma State has not died down, adding that although rotational formula was not in the nation’s constitution, was, however, quick to add that same constitution did not cede political power and leadership to a particular zone.
Speaking further, Clark, who admitted that Delta North has been marginalised, however, reminded the traditional rulers that for them to get it right, they should work together and produce a credible candidate, adding, “If you want a governor from Anioma, it is a legitimate demand; if you want Anioma state, it is a legitimate demand. When the right time comes, put in your best candidate. When the time comes, I will cast my vote for Delta North. I have a soft spot for Delta North.”

Pesticides affect sperm quality – Experts

Lagos – Some medical experts in Lagos on Saturday said pesticides and other insect killer chemicals could affect the quality of sperm in men.
They said in separate interviews in Lagos that low sperm quality could cause sterility.
A consultant gynaecologist at Shalom Hospital, Dr Titi Dairo, said many environmental factors affected sperm quality in men.
According to her, such factors are pesticides and insecticides, which are mostly overlooked by most people as damaging to the sperm producing organ of men.
“Pesticides and insecticides used in controlling insects, pests and rodents have harmful effects not only on a person’s health, but also on the sperm.
“Pesticides and insecticides exposure may affect spermatogenesis leading to poor semen quality.
“Other environmental elements that affect sperm quality include: extended exposure to industrial chemicals like herbicides, pesticides, organic solvents and painting materials.
“Indiscriminate exposure to these elements should be limited, if not avoided because low sperm count and poor sperm quality are the causes of infertility in men,” she said.
A general physician, Dr Ibidun Abimbola, said that over exposure to insecticide used in killing mosquitoes could have harmful effect on the sperm producing organs of men.
“Chemicals from pesticides and insecticides can cause damage, not only to the health, but also to the male reproductive organ.
“Reduction in sperm quality due to several exposures to pesticides and insecticides can result in infertility.”
She listed other factors responsible for low sperm count in men to include work related stress, and lead fumes generated in the manufacturing of small cell batteries.
“Exposure to X-rays should be limited as sperm cells are easily damaged by its gamma rays.
“Sitting for a long period, wearing tight clothing or using a laptop on your lap for a long period may also increase the temperature in your scrotum and reduce sperm production,” she said. (NAN)
